AREDP has been established under the financing agreement between Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (GoIRA) and International Development Association (IDA)/Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund (ARTF). The program has a history and proven expertise in enterprise development and aims to “improve employment opportunities and income of the rural men and women, and sustainability of targeted local micro, small and medium enterprises.” All legal documents will be signed by His Excellency the Minister of MRRD as a legal representative of AREDP and bamboo project will be implemented as per the agreement between MRRD-AREDP and SDF.

Keeping in view the AREDP objectives and need of the present, it is important to introduce new and innovative idea like Bamboo/similar products production keeping in view farming as business and also import substitution. Afghanistan has the potential grow Bamboo/similar products. Bamboo/similar products is an important factor in stabilizing the oxygen and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Bamboo/similar products plays a very important role in conserving soil and water. Bamboo/similar products is eminently suitable for housing and general engineering because of its high strength/weight ratio, phenomenal flexibility and tubular anatomy. The products made by traditional Bamboo/similar products artisans groups continue to play a vital role in the rural agro-industries. Afghanistan Bamboo/similar products artisans are suffering because of the insufficiency or and shortage of raw material. Bamboo/similar products farming is environmentally and economically sound. Therefore, it is necessary to realize the immense economic potential of this amazing material, develop its utilization and propagation and to raise plantation of Bamboo/similar products species, particularly in uncovered hills and degraded areas; over logged forest areas; banks of the rivers; road sides and marginal farm land covered under agro-forestry initiative.
